The ability to track, report and deliver payment on hundreds of billions -- and, soon, trillions -- of microtransactions, while providing the latest in database management, data mining and data analysis, is what rules distribution. New digital-first distributors have sprung up to flesh out the indie ranks, with companies like CD Baby, TuneCore and EMPIRE circumventing the established system.
